Directed by Vikram Bhatt & produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, Akshay starrer ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’ released in 2002. It won Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role and others. It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 13 cr and earned Rs 16 cr in India and 28 cr at the Box-office worldwide.

Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal are expected to make a comeback to play their prominent quirky characters of Guru Gulab Khatri, Yeda Anna, and Manilal Patel, respectively. As per Peeping Moon’s source, John Abraham will join the cast and the script has been finalised, and the film is anticipated to go into production later this year.

As per reports, Ahmed Khan has been in talks to direct the film. His previous helmed films like ‘Heropanti 2’, ‘Fool and Final’ were flopped at the Box-office receiving Rs 35.13 cr and Rs 27.62 crores, respectively. Speaking of his others films like ‘Baaghi 2’ with Rs 164.38 Crore nett India as box-office collection was a super-hit, whereas its threequel called ‘Baaghi 3’ earned Rs 93.37 Crore becoming semi-hit.

Take a look at Ahmed’s previous films and their box-office collections to understand better:

Interestingly, he was a choreographer for ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’. However, it’s apparent how Khan succeeded in action films but failed to deliver in comedy genre. Meanwhile, his produced film – ‘Baap’ – starring Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol – will release this year.

Ahmed Khan Is Not A Master Of Comedies

Ahmed Khan is not a right choice due to following reasons:

  1. Poor box office record over two decades except ‘Baaghi 2’
  2. Comedy is not his forte nor he makes nuanced films which are need of the hour
  3. His taste in cinema can be seen in his recently produced film ‘Rashtrakavach Om’ which was poor remake of two decade old Hollywood’s Bourne series
  4. His next production ‘Baap’ seems like poor cousin of ‘The Expendables’

With such creatively bankrupt track record, one can not expect a quality sequel with such a stellar cast. Director is what makes film, be it ‘Bhool Bhullaiya 2′ or ‘Pathaan’ as Anees Bazmee and Siddharth Anand had proven genre expertise.
